Mira Costa’s girls lacrosse placed second in the Rose Bowl Jamboree tournament on Saturday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, with top performances from senior Kayla Knowles and sophomore Kelli Mark.
The Mustangs defeated Mission Viejo 5-4 and Downey 4-3 but lost to Aliso Niguel 3-8 causing them to finish in second place. Their game against Downey resulted into overtime with senior, Kayla Knowles scoring the winning goal. According to senior Kayla Sugimoto the team played to their full potential.
“We looked good out on the field and tried playing to our full potential,” Sugimoto said. “although having one loss it was still a good day overall.”
The Mustangs are currently 3-2 overall. The team’s next game is against Birmingham at Birmingham High School on Wednesday. According to senior captain Ally Keasler, the team has injuries but still has potential to go on and win.
“With some injuries on our team, some players had to step up and play positions they weren’t use to,” Keasler said. “But them stepping up led us to win our games and play better overall.”
