Mira Costa’s boys golf team lost to Peninsula High School 203-212 in a non-conference game on Tuesday at the Palos Verdes Golf course, with top performances by seniors Carson Armstrong and Shivain Chopra.
The Mustangs fell short during the match due to tough conditions from the previous day’s rain. The team continued to fall behind even with two best scores of 39 by Chopra and 40 by Armstrong. According to sophomore Jack Major, the team could have played much better.
“The course we played on was very difficult and the tough conditions didn’t help,” Major said. “Everyone on the team played below their capabilities and we let the less than ideal conditions get the best of us.”
The Mustangs are currently 1-2 overall. The team has a chance to get redemption against Peninsula High School at the Chester Washington Golf course on Thursday. According to Major the team should perform much better on Thursday.
“We will play a lot better on Thursday because the team had an off day on Tuesday and the conditions were tough,” Major said. “With practice, I believe we can defeat Peninsula.”
