Mira Costa’s boys golf team lost to Peninsula High School 187-191 in a non-conference game on Thursday at the Chester Washington Golf course, with a top performance by freshman Max Huggins.
The Mustangs got par on many holes in the beginning of the match but fell behind as the match progressed. Even with a below par score of 35 by Huggins, Costa fell short and lost to Peninsula yet again. According to sophomore Jack Major, the team did well despite the loss.
“We played pretty well but Peninsula is one of the tougher teams that we will play this season,” Major said. “Everyone on the team was focused and had a winning mindset.”
The Mustangs are currently 1-3 overall. The team faces off against rival Redondo Union High School on Monday at the Lakewood Golf Course. According to Major the team has the capabilities to do well on Monday.
“Redondo is one of our biggest rivals, so it is exciting to play against them,” Major said. “I believe the team has a strong potential and we have a good chance at winning.”
