Mira Costa’s track and field team competed in the second day of the Nike Invitational on Saturday at Redondo Union High School, with the boys placing 21st and the girls placing eighth.
The top performers of day two included senior Michael Yaskowitz who placed eighth in the boys 1600 meter with a time of 4:24.14, junior Shante Robinson who placed third in girls 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.68 and first in 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.98, as well as junior James Ryczanowski who placed fifth in boys 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.70. To finish off the team’s success, the girls placed first in 4X100 relay with a time of 48.53 and the boys placed 13th with a time of 44.31. According to senior Ethan Williams, the team had a strong day.
“We ran well today against the competition,” Williams said. “We competed against intense schools and strong runners, so I think we did very well.”
The Mustangs will next compete against Peninsula and Morningside on Thursday at home. According to senior Brendan Hunt, the team expects to do well.
“This meet should be fairly easy,” Hunt said. “We have high hopes for the rest of the season and this meet should help raise our expectations and confidence.”
