Mira Costa’s boys lacrosse defeated Culver City 8-3 at home on Monday, with top performances from junior Casey Bonner, who scored four goals.
Throughout the game, the Mustangs’ defense, consisting of defenders junior Adam Enomoto, junior Julian Menendez and senior Henry Kobel, combined with efforts from senior goalie John Van Sickle, shut out Culver City’s offense. Since many of the starting players were out due to illness or injury, younger players such as sophomore midfielders Zachary Horowitz and Miles Choromanski had to step up. According to senior defender Jack Gibbons, the team played well.
“Everyone on offense was on the same page and executing the plays well,” Gibbons said.
Costa, now 3-1 overall, will next play a non-conference El Segundo at El Segundo High School on Wednesday. According to Horowitz, the offense needs to work on its man-up play in order to capitalize on all of the opportunities given to the team.
“I think we should win against El Segundo if we work on what we didn’t do well on Monday,” Horowitz said.
