Mira Costa’s swim team defeated South Torrance High School 245-95 at home on Thursday. The girls won 123-47 and the boys won 122-48.
Freshman Alexandra Crisera placed first in 100 backstroke, coming in at an astounding 59:15 and placed first in the 200 individual medley at 2:09:94 to qualify for California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) in both events. Senior Ian Campbell placed first in his 100 yard butterfly at 53:72, making the CIF soft cut. According to junior Katie Barnhill, despite the Mustangs’ success, they need a little work on their team spirit.
“It was a great first meet,” Barnhill said. “It was fun bonding with all of the new swimmers on varsity. It’ll be exciting to see how we do this year with lots of new talent.”
Costa is now 1-0 overall. The next meet will be at home against West Torrance High School at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
“It was our first meet of the season, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us as a team,” junior Emma Nerad said.
