Mira Costa’s boys volleyball team competed in the Best in the West tournament over the weekend. On Friday, the Mustangs defeated Carlsbad, Dos Pueblos, and Mater Dei 2-0 in each game. On Saturday, they defeated BCP 2-0, Palos Verdes 2-1, and lost to Huntington Beach 2-0.
Senior outside hitter Roy McFarland had over 40 kills in the tournament. The Mustangs were also led by senior opposite Jackson Wedbush and senior libero Sam Jones. According to junior outside hitter Kevin Pinkerton, this tournament was a great way to get the feel for the team this season.
“A lot of people played really well,” Pinkerton said. “We also played some good opponents which was a good test.”
The Mustangs are now 6-1 overall and will next play Loyola on Friday in an away game in one of the most anticipated games this season. According to junior libero Will Taylor, it will be one of the toughest games all season and will be a good test of the team’s integrity.
“Loyola is a very strong opponent and we will have to maintain our focus the whole time,” Taylor said.
