Costa badminton defeated Cabrillo High School 18-3 on Tuesday at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club, with top performances by senior Yoshi Cohn and junior Sam Schwartz.
Cohn and Schwartz won their mixed doubles matches 21-5 and 21-4. Freshman Lulu Yu won her girls singles match 21-12 and 21-6. Sophomores Audrey Kim and Audrey Mei won their girls doubles 21-11 for both matches. Schwartz won boys singles 21-9 and 21-7, and freshman Jay Cohn and junior Nathan Trinh won their boys doubles matches 21-12. According to Coach David Levin, the team played together well today.
“We dominated in all levels and events,” Levin said. “Both the girls and boys played very well in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.”
Costa’s record is 3-0 currently The team will next play San Marino High School on March 31 at the Los Angeles Badminton Club. According to Levin, there are high hopes for the remainder of the season.
“We need to keep working hard before the next match,” Levin said. “We’ve set very high goals to do well in California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) this year.”
