Mira Costa swim competed in the boys preliminaries for the South Bay Invitational at home on Tuesday against Pacific Palisades, San Pedro, West Torrance, Redondo Union, El Segundo, Culver City, and Torrance.

Costa freshman Kai Bathurst placed second in the 100 yard backstroke at 56:08 and senior Matt Woicik placed second in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:49:96, both boys making the CIF soft cut. According to Bathurst, the boys have more potential that will show on Friday.

“Our team did pretty good in the preliminaries, but I think that we’ll go a lot faster in the finals,” Bathurst said. “Hopefully we can win the invite.”

Both the Costa boys and girls are 2-0 going into this invitational. The girls preliminaries will be on Wednesday at home, and the finals will be on Friday at home. According to Woicik, the boys are looking to improve their efforts on Friday.

“Prelims went well for the guys, and we are looking to do even better in finals,” Woicik said.
