The Mira Costa Marching Band performed in the Manhattan Beach Little League Parade on Mar. 5 where they marched from downtown Manhattan Beach to American Martyrs Church.

The band played “Mirada” as well as several stand tunes such as Dance to the Music, Land of 1000 Dances, E-Town and Hey Baby.

“My favorite part about performing in this parade is seeing all the Manhattan Beach residents coming out to enjoy the show,” Band President and clarinet section leader Lauren Koch said.

According to Drum Major Emily Chase, all members looked forward to the parade because it was the last official marching band event of the year. It wrapped up the season and everyone got a chance to recognize how far they had come since the beginning of the season in August, Chase said.

“The parade is a good end to the season because everyone comes together for one last event and it’s nice because it’s not as intense as a competition but we still get to put on our gear and perform, which is always a blast,” Chase said.

According to Koch, although the parade was taken seriously and each member put in their best effort, the band does not work to improve upon any marching aspects during the parade since it is their last event of the season.

“Even though the parade is not a major event compared to other competitions and shows, we enjoy this parade so much because it is a last hurrah for the past season and just a fun and energetic way to be involved in our community,” Chase said.
