Mira Costa’s boys golf team triumphed against Beverly Hills High School on Tuesday despite tough terrain and powerful winds on the course.
The boys golf team defeated the Normans, 209-224, in its first match of the season at the Normans’ home course Rancho Park Golf Course.
“Even though we won the match, I think the team could have played much better today,” sophomore Jack Major said. “We weren’t ready for such tough conditions.”
Senior Nick Harry shot par on the first three holes, finishing his match with a of score 40. Harry’s low score was vital for getting the win, golf coach Tom Cox said. Sophomore Max Huggins also shot a 40, tying for the Mustangs’ lowest score for the day.
“It was a fun match, but it was also windy and pretty tough to judge distances,” Harry said. “I had to take an extra club on most shots in order to keep the ball flighted as low as I could.”
Costa is currently 4-4 overall and is 1-0 in Bay League. The Mustangs had another match yesterday against Beverly Hills High School at the Chester Washington Golf Course, but results were unavailable at the time of publication.
“The team keeps on getting better and better, and I believe there is a lot of talent,” Cox said. “The season is a journey, and we still have a long ways to go before the team reaches its potential.”
