The Mira Costa Music Department held its first annual Evening of Eclectic Ensembles fundraiser on March 11 in the Costa cafeteria.
A total of 29 Costa musical groups and soloists performed different pieces at the event. The musicians performed pieces such as “Gypsy Song” by Georges Bizet, “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and “Baby Elephant Walk” by Henry Mancini.
“We were able to give a decent performance and the crowd’s encouragement was a huge help,” junior bassoon player Adrian Yu said. “It was a great environment where everyone got to hear great music.”
Parents and students who volunteered at the event sold tickets for $25 and also sold $5 raffle tickets. According to Band Booster parent Danielle Anderson, the event raised a total of $8370. The money raised at the event will help fund the Music Department’s trip to Carnegie Hall in New York City in May. Specifically, the money will be used to transfer large instruments that cannot fit on the plane, such as the Tubas and many percussion instruments.
“It was a great experience for both performers and audience members and we raised a lot of funds for the band and orchestra’s trip to Carnegie Hall later this year,” Band President Lauren Koch said.
Since the event was such a success, band and orchestra members will be hosting the fundraiser again next year, Koch said.
“The concert definitely met its purpose so we’re all really stoked about its outcome,” Koch said.
