Mira Costa’s boys lacrosse ended its non-league games at 9-3 overall after shutting out Damien 15-0, at home on Friday with top performances from senior goalie John Van Sickle who helped his team win in its first shut out of the year.
The Mustangs’s scoring was led by senior attacker Zane Crandall and sophomore attacker Macallan Laver, each scoring four goals each. According to junior middle Casey Bonner, the non-league games such as these prepares the team for techniques they might come across in the future.
“Our game against Damien gave us an opportunity to run various parts of our offense that we haven’t been able to perform effectively,” Bonner said.
The Mustangs, now 9-3 overall, will play its first Bay League game of the season against Peninsula at home on Tuesday. According to sophomore Zach Horowitz, the team lost to Peninsula in a close overtime game last year but hopes to redeem itself this year.
“We’re all expecting a tough fight , and we will do the best we can,” Horowitz said. “Our team is pretty solid this year, and I hope we will come out on top.”
