Mira Costa’s Badminton team defeated San Marino 11-10 at the Los Angeles Badminton Club on March 31 with top performances from junior Sam Schwartz.
The Mustangs won one game in girls singles. Schwartz and sophomore Dillon Kanai won two of their games in boys singles. The team won three mixed doubles games. According to Schwartz, the team played well, seeing as the team wasn’t familiar with the Los Angeles Badminton Club.
“Our team was not at full strength and we were playing on unfamiliar courts,” Schwartz said. “But despite these obstacles we were able to come out on top.”
The team’s record is currently 4-0 overall. The Mustangs will play against Cerritos at Cerritos High School on April 16. According to freshman Lulu Yu, the team needs to work on strategy and team pairings.
“We need to work on consistency and maintaining a lead during games,” Yu said. “Sometimes we are leading by a lot but then lose maybe 4 consecutive points in a row, which is dangerous.”
