Mira Costa’s boys lacrosse won 11-9 against Junipero Serra, a team from San Mateo, at home on April 1, with top performances from senior Zane Crandall.
In the first three quarters, the lead alternated as both teams went back and forth with no team able to lead by more than one goal. In the fourth quarter, Costa tied the game at 8-8 then gained more momentum to earn the win, 11-9. According to junior Casey Bonner, Costa’s solid defense contributed to the win.
“Our defense has been doing a great job and always keeps us in the games,” Bonner said. “They managed to stay tight to prevent passes from going through and blocked many of their shots.”
The Mustangs, now 7-3 overall, will next play against Birmingham in a non-league home on April 6. According to Bonner, although the defense is solid, the offense still has room for improvement.
“We’re rather young on the offensive side and we need a little more confidence,” Bonner said. “We have the skills, but some of the guys aren’t always ready to just take the extra pass to get the job done.”
