Mira Costa’s boys tennis team defeated Palos Verdes 15-3 in a home Bay League match on Thursday with top performances by junior Tommy Kendall and senior Kyle Ou.
Senior Alex Gaal started off the match well with a defeat in singles 6-0. To continue the wins, seniors Blake and Tanner Suard defeated their opponents 6-2. According to junior boys doubles player Bobby Sillman, the team stayed focused throughout the matches, despite facing a difficult opponent.
“We held our ground in both singles and doubles, which helped us get off to a strong start,” Sillman said. “The team could have improved by closing out important games to extend our lead quickly.”
Costa is currently 13-2 overall and 5-1 in Bay League. The Mustangs will play against Santa Barbara on Saturday at home. According to Sillman, the team needs to improve its focus during the matches before their next game.
“The team should continue to work on staying positive in the crucial moments when the game is tight,” Sillman said.
