Mira Costa’s boys lacrosse team defeated crosstown rival Redondo Union High School 17-3 at home on Friday in the team’s second Bay League game of the season.
The Mustangs jumped out to a big lead early on, ending the first half 11-2. Costa continued to score, winning the game 17-3. According to junior midfielder Casey Bonner, the team was able to efficiently move the ball down the field, and as a result, was able to run many different offensive sets.
“We could still work on running those sets with more accuracy, because we were more focused on getting goals and assisting each other then successfully completing our set plays,” Bonner said.
Now 11-3 overall and 2-0 in Bay League, Costa will next take on Palos Verdes in a Bay League game on Tuesday at Palos Verdes High School. According to Bonner, the Mustangs have a hard schedule and the game against PV will be a tough.
“If we make a good statement against PV it will make a good note for us when it comes to playoff rankings,” Bonner said. “PV is always good, but even though we’re just getting acclimated to our defense and we’re are able to rely on anybody on our offense, which is really going to give us an edge on PV.”
