The senior water polo captain Kaylee Brownsberger and water polo coach Jon Reichardt were named Daily Breeze Player and Coach of The Year respectively on March 16 due to their leadership throughout the season and during California interscholastic Federation (CIF).
Brownsberger was one of the only seniors returning on a youthful Mustangs squad, and was seen as a leader by her teammates. Brownsberger was known to stepping to the plate and was always there to earn the team vital points, to leading her team to victory.
“I wanted to be there for my teammates, as a person they could count on, ” Brownsberger said. “I think we had a lot of experienced players early on, but as the season progressed we all really came together to be a cohesive team.”
Brownsberger is now USC-bound and hopes to be a vital member of the USC water polo team just like she was at Costa. She attributes much of her success to Reichardt, and believes he pushed the team to make it live up to its full potential.
“I am really proud that my Coach and I are receiving this title but I couldn’t have done it without him or any of my teammates pushing me throughout the way,” Brownsberger said.
