Mira Costa’s girls lacrosse defeated El Segundo 9-8 in a Bay Beague game on friday at El Segundo, with top performances from senior Ally Keasler and sophomore Charlie Manley.
The Mustangs played a rough first half and had a hard time on both sides of the field. In the second half the Mustangs came out strong and took the lead to win the game 9-8. According to senior captain Kayla Sugimoto, the team played well but could have done better.
“We played hard and I’m glad we came out with the win,” Sugimoto said. “But I don’t think we played to our full ability.”
The Mustangs are currently 8-5 overall and 3-1 in Bay League. The team’s next game is against Penn at Peninsula Palos Verdes High School on Friday. According to Keasler, the team still has more to work on to prepare for the upcoming game.
“We have played Peninsula before and are aware of their weaknesses, and can use that to gain an upper hand,” said Keasler. “As Bay League comes to an end and CIF starts.”
