Mira Costa’s boys tennis team won against Santa Barbara 12-6 in an away game on Saturday with top performances from senior singles player Alex Gaal and doubles partners senior Jeremy Chung and freshman Matthew Poh.
Gaal started the team off strong with a win in three of his games. Chung and Poh continued the streak with three wins in doubles, which greatly contributed to the team’s overall win. According to junior singles player Bobby Sillman, the team supported each other even when the matches were close.
“The team was up to the challenge of playing a very good team that Costa had not beaten in over 10 years, so this win was a big deal for ranking and pride,” Sillman said.
The Mustangs, now 15-2 overall and 5-1 in Bay League, will play an away game against Peninsula on Tuesday. According to Sillman, the team needs to continue working hard in order to do well against Peninsula.
“We need to keep positive about the outcome because we lost to Peninsula last time,” Sillman said.
