Mira Costa’s boys tennis team defeated Peninsula 10-8 in a Bay League match on Tuesday with top performances from freshman doubles partners Kyle Sillman and Matthew Poh. The Mustangs victory over Peninsula clinched them the first place title in Bay League.
In line three doubles, Sillman and Poh won three of their games, greatly helping the team achieve its win. Senior Alex Gaal won two of his three games, the only wins in singles out of all Costa players. According to junior Bobby Sillman, the team maintained a positive attitude and stayed with their lineup, besides having a rough start.
“The team could have done better about fighting for a few more games because the match was so close,” Sillman said.
The Mustangs are currently 16-2 overall and 6-1 in Bay League. They will play in an away game against Inglewood on April 16. According to Sillman, the team needs to keep up their effort in order to do well.
“The team needs to continue playing a high level and maintain our current comradery in order to defeat Inglewood,” Sillman said.
