Mira Costa’s boys lacrosse team fell to the Palos Verdes Sea Kings 16-3 at Palos Verdes High School on Tuesday in the Mustangs’ third Bay League game of the season.
The Sea Kings gained a big lead early on, and although Costa managed to scored a few points, it wasn too late to come back. According to senior captain Jack Gibbons, the team had trouble with ground balls off of the face off, allowing Palos Verdes to pull ahead early in the game.
“We should’ve hustled harder for ground balls off the faceoff, and should have calmed down and taken our time to run the offense,” senior Tyler Maruyama said. “We needed to be way more physical on defense.”
The Mustangs, now 11-4 overall and 2-1 in Bay League, will next play in a rematch against Peninsula High School at home on Friday at 7 p.m. Gibbons predicts that it will be a tough game since their last game against Peninsula was very close.
“They’re a good team and are well coached,” Gibbons said. “We beat them in overtime last time we played and I expect another close game.”
