25-year-old Hawthorne local DJ Jeffries was reported missing around 4:45 pm after swimming with friends on Tuesday in Manhattan Beach.
According to the friends he was with, Jeffries was swimming off the coast of Manhattan Beach near tower 18 and is believed to have been swept into the ocean by the tides. He was reported missing by his friends when they could no longer spot him in the ocean. The U.S. Coast Guard has been scouting the beach since Tuesday, but stopped on Wednesday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s diving team will still carry out diving operations in search for him.
“It was a very disappointing day for all of us,” Hermosa Beach lifeguard Brent Pollock said. “For a lifeguard there’s nothing worse than having a tragedy like this happen on your watch.”
