Mira Costa’s boys lacrosse team fell to Peninsula 16-7 on Friday at home in its fourth Bay League game of the season, with top performances from senior Zane Crandall and junior Casey Bonner.
Although Costa was only a couple goals behind Peninsula in the beginning, Costa was unable to come back while Peninsula extended its lead even further to win the game 16-7. According to senior Tyler Maruyama, the difference between the team’s last win against Peninsula and this loss was the team’s mental approach to the game.
“The first time we played Peninsula we were all super fired up and really wanted to win, but this time we were more lethargic during warm ups and then we totally shut down after we went down a couple goals,” Maruyama said.
Costa, now 11-5 overall and 2-2 in Bay League, will next play Redondo at Redondo High School on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Costa’s second to last Bay League games before California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Maruyama believes that the team needs to work on its physicality and being mentally tougher.
“I think it will go well,” Maruyama said. “We will be coming off of a tough loss so we are hungry for another win.”
