Mira Costa’s girls beach volleyball team swept Palisades High School at Dockweiler Beach on Saturday in its fourth Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League tournament of the year.

Costa’s first-seed team of juniors Maddie Micheletti and Alexia Inman won all its games. Despite the Mustangs’ undefeated record, Palisades High School had defeated Micheletti and Inman in the past, because, according to Inman, Costa had been trying to out shoot them, costing them unnecessary points.

“This time was different because Maddie and I were just hitting the ball with speed, which they have a hard time defending,” Inman said.

Costa’s third-seed team of sophomore Piper Monk-Heidrich and senior Hayley Caputo did an excellent job scoring in key moments, Caputo said.

“Hayley and I served extremely well, which helped us gain momentum,” Monk-Heidrich said. “We definitely were able to use that to our advantage in our games during the tournament.”

The undefeated Mustangs will host their annual “Queen of the Beach” tournament on Saturday at Dockweiler Beach. The team will continue to work on its mobility on the court to prepare for the game, Monk-Heidrich said.

“In the future, Hayley and I will continue to work on our serve- receive and moving our feet faster to get behind the ball so that we keep the team’s winning streak,” Monk-Heidrich said.
