Mira Costa’s girls lacrosse defeated Palos Verdes High School 13-9 in a Bay League game on Wednesday at Palos Verdes, with top performances from senior midfielder Kayla Sugimoto and sophomore Charlie Manley.
The Mustangs played well throughout the game on both sides of the field. Manley and Sugimoto both scored six goals, along with juniors Daly Raffety, Rachel Glozman, and Kelli Mark. Towards the end of the game the Seakings were able to come back, but the Mustangs kept their lead. According to Sugimoto the team played well and exceed expectations.
“We held the lead the entire game and stayed strong till the end of the game,” Manley said. “We had great transitions and worked extremely well together today.”
The Mustangs are currently 8-8 overall and 4-3 in Bay League. The team’s next game is against Redondo Union at home on Friday. According to Sugimoto, the team has a good shot in California Interscholastic Federation.
“We started out rough in the beginning of the season, but have been playing extremely well lately,” Sugimoto said. “I believe we have a good shot in CIF this year.”
