Mira Costa’s badminton team defeated Arcadia High School, 18-3, on Tuesday at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club.
Costa’s girls singles player senior captain Yoshi Cohn and freshman Lulu Yu won all of their games. In doubles, duo senior Shirleen Chen and sophomore Jiale Luo went undefeated, as did sophomore partners Audrey Kim and Kelly Trinh.
“Our doubles teams really worked together, and our singles players also came out playing really aggressively” Cohn said.
As for boys, singles players junior Sam Schwartz won all of his games, while junior Nathan Trinh won one game and lost one game. For the boys doubles, freshman Jay Cohn and Lingzhen Meng won all of their games, but sophomore Ray Kim and junior Henry Yu were not able to win a game. Mixed doubles partners Schwartz and Yoshi Cohn and Jay Cohn and Yu all won both of their games.
“I think we really showed our abilities today,” Kim said. “Everyone played well, and everyone contributed to our win.”
The Mustangs now hold a record of 7-0 and will play Baldwin Park on Tuesday in the first round of California Interscholastic Federation tournament play.
“The team has worked hard this year in order to get a good result in CIF,” coach David Levin.
