Mira Costa seniors showed their colors on April 29 by wearing their college shirts on College Commitment day.
Every year, seniors celebrate College Commitment Day on May 1 by representing the colleges they have committed to. College Commitment day is an annual event where seniors represent the school they committed to, usually on May 1. Since May 1 is on a Sunday this year, it was instead held on April 29. The event gave seniors an opportunity to show their commitment and where they are attending next fall.
“It sends a message to other colleges that the students are no longer eligible to go to another school,” senior Meera Nagpal said. “It’s fun seeing where everyone else is going and take pictures with friends.”
The College and Career Center worked in conjunction with the Parent Teacher Student Association to coordinate the event. Students will have a chance to put a sticker on a giant map of the United States to show where they are going to college in the Mustang Mall during lunch.
“It is an exciting atmosphere to see students who have worked so hard throughout their high school career go to some awesome schools,” College and Career Counselor Shalyn Tharayil said.
In addition to putting their stickers on the map, students will be given brownies by the PTSA to celebrate their accomplishment. The CCC will be handing out Senior clearance instructions that explain how final transcripts are sent to colleges. Costa Principal Ben Dale, praised the students success and emphasized that there is a college that is right for each individual student.
“College isn’t a prize to be won, students have to find the right fit for them,” Dale said.
