Schools all around the South Bay were touring schools in the Manhattan Beach School District on April 18th and 19th, to promote and encourage prospective students to apply.
Prospective students from schools such as Manhattan Beach Middle School and Hermosa Valley Middle School visited Mira Costa to see what it’s like to be a high schooler in Manhattan Beach. During the tour, they experience the student life, culture on campus, academics and the programs offered at Costa by walking around campus and visiting classrooms.
“During these tours we like to show off the new campus, all the academic, athletic and the activity programs at this school,” Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said.
Seniors at Costa in ASB lead the tour, dividing the crowd into small groups based on last names. Not only do they guide the students around campus, but they also gave them advice and tips on getting to know the area and how to get to classes on time.
“A lot of the time, they guide the tour to show the student perspective. Educators also tag along, and they would much rather hear from students than me,” Dr. Dale said.
Tour guides take students in Costa classrooms to listen to lectures from the teachers, who encourage them to attend Costa. They head over to many of the elective classes, such as MUN, art and woodshop, to give the students a better insight of what is to come.
“The programs we choose are the programs we know other schools don’t have,” Dale said.
School tours are great to learn if an institution is the right fit for a student and their family members.
“We offer everything for our students,” Dale said, “We want to show everyone that.”
