Mira Costa’s boys lacrosse fell to Palos Verdes 16-1 in an away game on Thursday in its last Bay League game of the season before California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs.
The Mustangs started off the game by scoring the first goal, and they held their ground throughout the first half, only allowing PV to score four goals. In the second half, Peninsula scored more and more goals and Costa was unable to recover. Junior Casey Bonner says that the team was focused on outlasting PV for four quarters and managed to do so in the first half but not the second.
“We were doing pretty well in the first half, since we were one of the only teams to keep PV under ten at halftime,” Bonner said. “After they put up a couple more goals, we lost track of what we wanted to do and began playing frantically, and that just didn’t work out.”
Boys lacrosse finished its Bay League season at 3-3 and 12-6 overall, and will next play in the first round of CIF playoffs on Tuesday against Westlake at Westlake High School. According to Bonner, the team has been preparing for the upcoming game by watching films of Westlake’s games to break down its offense and defense.
“I think we we need to go into the game and follow the game plan that we set up today, and if we do so, I think we will do pretty
well,” Bonner said.
