Mira Costa’s junior varsity boys tennis team defeated Morningside High School in a Bay League game on Thursday 18-0 with top performances from sophomore singles players Jon Scalabrini and Max Glasman.
Costa swept against Morningside, winning 18 of their sets and losing zero. Scalabrini won his singles match, despite the team being down one of their top singles players. Doubles players sophomores Chris Lee and Ben Choromanski won their doubles match, which was, according to freshman Alex Fry, the closest doubles match of the day.
“As a team, we played very well today,” Fry said. “We played the best that we could and were good ambassadors of the game.”
Costa’s varsity is currently 18-2 overall and 8-1 in Bay League and will play against Redondo on Monday. According to Fry, the team needs to work on maintaining a positive attitude throughout the matches, even when they are down.
“We need to work on consistency before the next game,” Fry said. “This way, we can focus more on each match and defeat our opponents.
