Mira Costa’s girls softball team lost 7-6 to Peninsula in an away Bay League game on Friday, and will not be advancing to California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs this year.
With strong batting from junior Emily Eudy, sophomore Serena Ponciano gave the Mustangs a two point lead in the first inning. Despite Costa’s strong defense, the Mustangs were unable to stop Peninsula’s offense from gaining six points, ending the second inning 6-2, with Costa losing.
“I was surprised and scared when they made such a big comeback,” said junior outfielder Erica Noll,“but the promise of CIF, and rallying with my teammates really helped me stay focused.”
The Mustang’s managed to score four more points, teing with Peninsula 6-6, but ultimately lost their lead. After a tough game, Cost lost 7-6.
“It’s the worst feeling in the world to lose by one, especially since we worked so hard throughout the whole game,” said freshman batter Morgan Ingham.
The Mustangs ended their season with at 6-5 in Bay League , and 12-14 overall. According to junior catcher Jamie Hoffman, the team is disappointed, but is already prepping for next season.
“There is nothing wrong with losing as long as you keep a good attitude and dedicate yourself to improving for next time, and that is exactly what the team is doing,” said Hoffman.
