Still zeroing in on his  target, senior Daniel Pimentel is deciding between joining the  Marines or Marine Corps Reserves.

If Pimentel chooses the Marines, he would like to be in infantry as a rifleman or work as a military policeman and complete his basic training at the Recruit Training Depot in San Diego. He is considering joining the Marines because it would give him  valuable skills for future careers, he said.

“I want to be a rifleman because being a part of the ground force in times of war has always been interesting to me,” Pimentel said.

In the Reserve, Pimentel would go through the same basic training to become a Marine, but after completing the training, he would be able to attend college and train for two weeks during the summer and one weekend out of every month for four years.

“I am considering joining the reserves so I can still live the life of a civilian and go to school while also serving in the Marines,” Pimentel said.

Pimentel hopes to serve in the military for four years and then work to become a police officer. He plans on deciding if he will be a Marine or a Reserve by the end of the summer.

By joining either the Marines or the Reserves, Pimentel would become eligible for the 9/11 GI Bill, that awards benefits to any serviceman who has joined the military after Sept. 11, 2001, and will receive college tuition.

“I know it is going to be difficult when I leave, and I hope that things will work out with my friends and family and that we are able to maintain what we have now,” Pimentel said.
