The Mira Costa High School Concert Choir attended the Music in the Park Festival at Disneyland on May 6th where the all-girl ensemble competed with other choirs.
The choir practiced songs chosen by Hayden that they would sing at the festival, such as “Se Teco vive Il cor” by G. F. Handel and “Remember” by Donna Gartman Shultz.\
“This festival was a great opportunity for us to perform with other choirs, receive comments from two adjudicators and have a great day bonding with each other in an iconic American destination,” Hayden said.
“My favorite is Remember by Donna Gartman Shultz because it’s really soft and pretty,” Concert Choir Co-President Ally Doyle said.
After Disneyland, all the choirs went to the award ceremony at 6:30. The Concert Choir won the women’s category with a superior rating, and then went on to win the overall category.
“We got first place in the women’s division and in the overall high school division,” Concert Choir Co-President Lily Kohler said. ”This is the second year in a row that Concert Choir has placed first in both of its categories. It’s an honor, considering we had some good competition.”
After the Choir performed their two songs, they got the chance to enjoy a day at Disneyland. Doyle claims the payoff from all their hard work was the best part of the experience.
“The best part of this experience is that all the work we have put into choir everyday has payed off,” Doyle said.
