The Mira Costa Drama Department held its annual Drama Senior Scenes show on June 1 in the small theatre where seniors in Drama directed scenes and performed them alongside underclassmen for audience members.
In order to selected scenes for the show, Drama teacher Carol Mathews selected the first eight scenes that seniors presented to her for the show. She then held auditions in March for acting positions in each scene. Actors have been rehearsing their scenes after school hours for several months in preparation for the show.
Several scenes included were “Cinnamon Rainbow,” directed by senior Juliana Rosenfeld and senior Layne Eichenlaub and written by senior Ann Wuehler; “The Elevator Man,” directed and written by senior Lexi Rosel; and “The Roaches,” directed and written by senior Sam Sturges.
“There was a ton of attention to detail, and the directors made great choices with the shows they directed,” Drama President Dana Beech said.
Students received a grade for the show that contributed to their overall grade in the class. Mathews graded students based on their participation and leadership that they demonstrated throughout the process.
All the funds raised at the event went toward the Drama Department to help fund future performances and trips. Each ticket cost $5, and the show raised over $500.
“Seniors got a last chance to put on a performance,” Beech said. “Essentially, it was the Drama Department’s final performance of the school year.”
