Manhattan Beach Unified School District has partnered with Creating Conversations and the Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore to host author of the Maze Runner series, James Dashner, in the Mira Costa Auditorium on Sept. 28 to speak about his latest book “The Fever Code.”
Dashner will be promoting the fifth book in The Maze Runner Series, “The Fever Code” and plans on a book signing and showing a presentation for this event.
“I’m really excited to read it because I think he is a great author,” freshman Ella Butler said. “It’ll be cool to hear what he has to say about his latest book.”

The event was organized by Costa parent Hildy Stern. According to Mira Costa Librarian Bridget Sullivan, students are encouraged to come, and it is likely that more authors will speak at Costa in the future.
“Stern is really good at getting authors to attend,” Sullivan said. “Hopefully it’s really packed because then we’ll be able to have more events like this in the future.
English teacher Shawn Chen will be moderating the session and asking Dashner questions throughout. There will be a question and answer session towards the end of the presentation.

“I personally like the idea because it gives a chance for the audience to respond and react to the subject,” said freshman Ruby Hirsch. “It’s pretty exciting for students to be able to react with the author in such a close setting.”
To personally meet him, buying a copy of “The Fever Code” will allow attendees to speak with Dashner and receive a signed copy of the book. A portion of the proceeds from book and ticket sales will go to Mira Costa’s library.
“It’s a once in a lifetime event,” said Sullivan. “This is an amazing number one best selling author.”
Tickets and reservations can be purchased from Dashner’s website. Tickets are sold for $21 and include a copy of the book as well as a reserved seat. Reserving a seat for the event is free and open to the public, but doesn’t include a copy of the book.
“It’s really cool because you can meet him in person and get a copy the day the book comes out,” said freshman Flor Rodriguez. “Even if you can’t buy a book, you can still reserve a seat for free which makes this a sick opportunity.”
