Mira Costa’s boys water polo team placed eighth on Friday and Saturday in the America’s Finest City Tournament in San Diego against East Lake, Bonita Canyon, Carlsbad, Buchanan, and Damian on Friday and Saturday.
Costa defeated East Lake 16-2 and Bonita Canyon 12-3 on Friday. On Saturday, Costa fell to Carlsbad 6-3, Buchanan 8-6, and Damian 11-8. Senior attacker Christian Thornton and sophomore attacker Colin Le were Costa’s top performers throughout the weekend, scoring goals on offense, and playing stellar defense.
“I felt that we came out strong, with lots of energy, strong defense, and an aggressive offense on Friday,” Le said. “However, we fell on Saturday. I think this is because we came out overconfident, expecting that each game would be an easy win,” Le said.
Mira Costa will next take on West Torrance this Monday in a home game. Costa is now 6-3 overall, and their record in Bay League is 1-0.
“We should win our game against West Torrance,” junior goaltender Paul Matt said.
“We’re going to look to play our bench, and we should be ready and prepared to dominate.”
