The Manhattan Beach Unified School District hosted author of the Maze Runner series, James Dashner, yesterday in the Mira Costa auditorium to talk about his writing career as well as his newest book, “The Fever Code.”
Dashner spoke about a broad range of topics including his inspiration behind “The Fever Code,” which is the second prequel to The Maze Runner series. He addressed his routine while writing it, as he aimed to make the plotline simpler than “The Maze Runner.”
“This was a once-in-a-lifetime event as it was an amazing number one best-selling author,” Costa librarian and co-planner Bridget Sullivan said. “Based on tonight’s success, it is likely that more authors will speak at Costa in the future.”
According to Dashner, his goal while writing “The Fever Code” was to write a realistic story that entertains people, as well as helps them escape. Additionally, although he didn’t intend to, many philosophies of life blended themselves into the story, which was an added bonus, Dashner said.
“I hope that Costa will host more authors in the future because the experience that comes with listening to an author talk about how passionate he or she is about writing is truly inspiring,” junior Cami Benson said.
