Mira Costa’s boys water polo team defeated Redondo Union High School 12-3 on Thursday at Redondo with top performances by senior driver Christian Thornton, senior goaltender Jere Ashby and sophomore attacker Chris Agliozzo.
The Mustangs primary offense came from Thornton and Agliozzo, and were helped out defensively by Jere Ashby. According to Agliozzo, Costa’s defense was their reason for success.
“Our defense and goaltending allowed us to control the game,” Agliozzo said. “Without our strong defense and goaltending, this game could have been a whole different story.”
Costa, now 8-4 overall, and 3-1 in the Bay League will take on Dana Hills High School on Thursday at Dana Hills. According to Ashby, the team needs to play strong defensively.
“To be successful, we need be on top of our game, especially defensively,” Ashby said. “With a good defense, we can be unstoppable.”
