Mira Costa’s girls golf team won 203-209, led by senior Lexi Nielsen, in a close win over rival Peninsula, at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes on Tuesday afternoon.
Nielsen led the team to victory with a score of one over par 37. She was backed up by a score of 39 from junior Delilah Gunn. According to Nielsen, the team played well, but not to their best ability.
“I felt like we played well today,” Nielsen said. “We didn’t play our best but we were able to come away with the win in the closest match of the season so far.”
With an overall undefeated record of 10-0 and 5-0 in Bay League, Costa next faces Peninsula in a home match this upcoming Thursday for the title of Bay League Champion. Despite this undefeated start, Nielsen feels that they need to play well to win on Thursday.
“Peninsula is easily the best team we have faced thus far,” Nielsen said “I am happy with the win and hopefully we will win our last match against Peninsula for the Bay League title.”
