Mira Costa’s girls golf team won the Bay League Championship 198-206, led by freshman Shani Waite, in a close win over rival Peninsula, at Chester Washington Golf Course in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon.

Waite led the team to victory with a score of 4 under par 32, her lowest score of the season. She was backed up by a score of 34 from senior Ashley Kim. According to Waite, she and the team played well in securing the victory.

“I felt like I played my best match this season. I knew this was our last match and I wanted to end with a bang and give 100%,” Waite said. “I’m very proud of our team and we all pulled together like we knew we had to in order to win our league.”

With an overall undefeated record of 11-0 and 6-0 in Bay League, Costa next plays in league finals at Rio Hondo in Downey. Senior Lexi Nielsen believes they have a good chance to win League finals.

“Peninsula is definitely the best team we have faced thus far,” Nielsen said “I am ecstatic with the Bay League win and I look forward to next Tuesday for the finals.”
