Costa seniors Kelly Sidney, Will Ghiselli and junior Patrick Lucas have a passion for politics as they work to support for the Republican Party and its presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
These students and others have been working to revive the Young Republicans Club, which was inactive last year after the club leaders graduated.
“Since so many students are already talking about the election, I believe that this is the perfect time to start the club and give students a place to express their political views,” Sidney said.
Young Republicans will engage in political discussions geared toward those who share the Republican mindset. The club also plans to recruit new members and educate future voters, Sidney said.
Many members of Young Republicans are passionate about their candidate and are not confident with Hillary Clinton’s effectiveness as a leader, Lucas said.
“Aside from my belief in conservative leadership, it is frightening to think of an America that is governed with the carelessness and dishonesty exemplified in the Democratic National Committee’s candidate, Hillary Clinton,” Lucas said.

Sidney, a self-proclaimed Republican, enjoys voicing her support for Trump by swaying undecided voters or advocating for the nominee in her club. She hopes that by informing others, she will gain support for the Republican presidential nominee, she said.
“There are so many closeted Trump supporters, and that is a shame,” Sidney said. “I know that people may think that I am wrong by supporting him, but my opinion is valid, and I am going to express it.”
Sidney’s hopes to attend a rally for Trump and surround herself with others who share her Republican views in the future.
“I choose to support my party because I am passionate about government, business, and society’s well-being,” Sidney said. “My vote will help myself, my family’s future, and the nation’s.”
Sidney’s support for the party comes from her desire to expand the recognition of the Republican Party and remove stereotypes, Sidney said. She plans to do this by spreading her ideas and sharing experiences in her club with the help of Ghiselli and Lucas.
“I support the GOP’s candidate by expressing my views, however conflicting they may be for my peers,” Lucas said. “I strongly believe that the conservative policies put in the Republican platform will help strengthen America’s middle class and bring lots of jobs back to our country.”
Ghiselli says he is excited for the Young Republicans to start up. He considers himself a progressive Republican and believes that Trump will protect everyone’s rights.
“Some young Republicans are afraid to express what they believe in, and I want to to help kids express their power to vote,” Ghiselli said.
Sidney, Ghiselli, and Lucas plan for the newly established Young Republicans Club to grow and educate other young, undecided voters about the true values of the Republican Party and will work to expose the real Republican Party values by addressing the ridiculous lies that the media manipulates about it.
“Since many students are already talking about the election, I believe that this is the perfect time to start the club and give students a place to express their political views,” Sidney said. “If someone works hard for their money, they deserve to keep it. If the government takes everything away, the motivation that drives our work world will disappear. I am confident in Donald Trump’s ability.”
