Mira Costa’s girls volleyball team defeated Morningside High School at an away game on Thursday. Top performers were sophomore outside hitter Sami Underwood and sophomore setter Malea Stanton.

The Mustangs beat Morningside in three quick games, with scores of 25-4, 25-1, and 25-2. According to senior outside hitter Hannah Scott, the team served consistently and aggressively on runs which restricted Morningside from getting into rhythm.

“We were trying out new positions so things were a bit confusing but we worked together to help everyone,” Underwood said.

Costa, now 8-1 in Bay League and 22-7 overall, competes this weekend in the Tournament of Champions in Santa Barbara. The tournament will include a few of the best teams of the state but Costa has a strong desire to do well, according to Scott.

“Santa Barbara will be a great warm up for Tuesday night next week, when we play Redondo for the second time in the league,” Scott said.
