A festive and fall-themed treat, these “Halloween Vanilla Cupcakes” are easy for anyone to create in their own kitchen.
With the addition of cinnamon in the fluffy frosting, these cupcakes are flavorful but not too overpowering, adding a festive accent to any Halloween festivity.
The recipe for the cupcakes can be found on jocooks.com. Joanna Cismaru, the creator of the site, is a self taught and published cook who strives to spread the enjoyment of cooking.
The recipe includes two cups all purpose flour, one cup of sugar, two teaspoons of baking powder, one-half teaspoon salt, one-half cup of butter softened, one-half cup of sour cream, two eggs and one teaspoon of vanilla extract. The process of constructing these cakes follows the same, simple regime as most recipes do and contains easy to find products.

For the cinnamon icing, one cup of butter is needed, two cups of sifted powdered sugar, and one half teaspoon of vanilla extract. Cinnamon can be added to taste. For decoration, one can use store bought toppings for the cupcakes such as gummy worms or eyeballs.
The recipe for the cupcake base is balanced with a dense and moist texture, due to the incorporation of sour cream. However, if too much sour cream is added, it can cause the cake to become overly dense. If one wants a fluffier cupcake, it is best to substitute the sour cream for milk or butter.
The cake is not overly sweet, which is the perfect respite from the overload of Halloween fun-sized candy kids snack on. Due to the sour cream, and no addition of chocolate or other candy, the cake’s sponginess and flavor is ideal for kids due to its mild yet appetizing flavor.
The cinnamon icing is the main attraction of the dessert. Plain vanilla buttercream can be un-appetizingly sweet, but with the minimal amount of sugar used and a balanced flavor of cinnamon, the resulting taste is practically perfected. The use of cinnamon also renders an autumn inspired taste, helping to enhance the Halloween effect in addition to the decorations.
The store bought gummies used for decoration did not add to the flavor of the cupcakes, although they were asthetically pleasing, adding to the Halloween theme. With a cheap, gelatinous aftertaste to them, the gummies are an unpleasant addition to the recipe though they are aesthetically pleasing.
For dietary restrictions, try these gluten-free vanilla cupcakes.
These simple, easy to create vanilla cupcakes can be a sweet addition for any Halloween themed party and can be easily manipulated with frosting colors and decor to suit any occasion.
