Mira Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale sent an email to all Manhattan Beach Unified School District families informing them that administration placed Costa on lockdown today at 12:45 am after a robbery took place near Manhattan Beach.
In the email, Dale stated that the campus was placed on lockdown after the school received orders from the Manhattan Beach Police Department of the crime, which took place at 11:45 am according to MBPD’s nixle. The crime did not take place in Manhattan Beach but was near the area.
“The campus was placed on lockdown at the request of MBPD as a safety precaution while they resolved a crime that had been committed in another city,” Dale said in the email.
Costa remained on a brief lockdown until the school received an all clear signal from MBPD. The suspect for the crime is currently in the custody of MBPD and school will resume as usual on Monday.
“We will follow up with information as we receive it,” Dale wrote. “As always, remain vigilant and say something if you see something.”
