Mira Costa’s boys water polo team narrowly defeated San Clemente High School 10-9, on Saturday at San Clemente with top performances by sophomore driver Chris Agliozzo and senior attacker Christian Thornton.
The Mustangs were scoring on the board early in the game, but almost blew their four goal lead in the fourth quarter. According to sophomore attacker Colin Le, Costa played really well until the end of the game.
“We played great until the final quarter,” Le said. “We let them come back into the game, and fortunately for us, we survived.”
Costa, now 15-7 overall, 6-1 in the Bay League will participate in the Steven Pal Tournament next weekend at Orange County. According to Le, the team needs to maintain their focus to be successful.
“To go far in the tournament, we need to keep our focus throughout the whole game.” Le said. There is no guarantees that we can beat any team.”
