Mira Costa’s boys water polo team placed third in the Steven Pal Tournament in Orange County against Yucaipa, Ayala, Damien, Santa Margarita, and Redlands East Valley on Friday and Saturday.
Costa defeated Yucaipa 9-3 and Ayala 14-6 on Friday. On Saturday, Costa defeated Damien 10-9, lost to Santa Margarita 9-5, and beat Redlands East Valley 7-5. Senior attacker Christian Thornton and sophomore attacker Chris Agliozzo were Costa’s top performers throughout the weekend, tallying plenty of goals.
“On Friday I felt that we were strong defensively which lead to chances on offense,” said sophomore attacker Colin Le said. “However, on Saturday, we did not play with any structure on offense or defense, and struggled because of that.”
Costa, now 18-8 overall and 6-1 in the Bay League will next take on rival Redondo Union on Wednesday in an away Bay League game. According to Le, Costa needs to be focused come Wednesday’s game.
“To be successful, we need to be ready and focused” Le said. If we are well prepared, we should defeat Redondo.”
