At Beach Goth V, small surf punk band, The Frights opened the second day of the festival along the west coast portion tour supporting their new album, “You Are Going To Hate This.” After their show, La Vista was able to get an interview with the band and ask a few questions.
LV: First off. Can you guys introduce yourselves?
All: I’m Mark, I play the drums, Im Mikey, I sing and play guitar, I’m ZZ and play bass, I’m Ryan and play guitar, I’m Richard, and I play bass.
LV: What made you guy re-release “Tungs”, “Kids”, and “Puppy Knuckles” on the new album?
Mikey: We just wanted to be able to give the songs more hype, they were released as singles and I think they didn’t get enough attention when we had a lot smaller of a following.
LV: That makes sense. So, what was the inspiration behind “Haunted”? It’s pretty different compared to the rest of the album.
Mikey: Well our producer Zac (Carper) sort of led us into a new direction, and kind of went wild and led us to do new things we definitely wouldn’t have done without him.
LV: If you were able to work with any artist dead or alive who would it be and why?
Mark: Johnny Cash.
Ryan: Dwight Twilley, definitely. I’ve been listening to him for a while.
Richard: Stevie Wonder would be pretty tight.
LV: Second year at Beach Goth. What brought you guys back?
Mikey: We love the atmosphere here… it’s just unique. No other festival is like it.
LV: Alright, last question: Who are you looking forward to seeing this weekend?
Ryan: Dwight Twilley, I can’t miss his set.
Richard and Mark: Gucci Mane most definitely.
