Mira Costa’s boys water polo team defeated Redondo Union High School 6-3 on Wednesday at home with top performance by senior attacker Ty Panitz.
After a scoreless first quarter, Costa’s offense finally clicked in the later quarters, with Panitz leading the way scoring two goals for the Mustangs. According to Panitz, the Mustangs got off to a slow start, but played better as the game progressed.
“In the beginning of the game, all aspects of our game were slow,” Panitz said. “As the game progressed, we played as a team, and we all worked our tails off.”
Costa, now 19-8 overall, finished 7-1 in the Bay League tied with Palos Verdes. Costa will host Loyola this Saturday. According to Panitz, the team needs to play together to be successful.
“To be successful, we cannot play as a bunch of individuals, we must play as team,” Panitz said.
