Mira Costa’s boys and girls cross country team finished first and second respectively with average times of 15:22 and 18:15 at the Bay League finals at Redondo on Thursday, with top performances by seniors Melia Chittenden and Caleb Llorin.
Chittenden placed first, with a personal record of 17:02, and Llorin placed second, a personal time of 14:52. Llorin said he was satisfied with his time, and always runs to win.
“We had a really good meet tonight,” girls varsity coach Renee Smith said. “Our goal was to try to get closer to Palos Verdes, they’re a good team, and really strong, so we tried to use them to make us faster.”
The Mustangs next meet will be the CIF Prelims, taking place at the Riverside Gold Course, on Nov. 12. Smith said the cross country practices will still be hard, in order to get ready for CIFs.
“I’m really excited for this meet, and we should do really well,” Smith said,” All the girls had really good performances, and now have the confidence to do even better.”
